I spent months in the hospital with two broken legs, a twisted neck, and skull fractures.

Even after two failed hip surgeries, I earned my instructor certification in Shanghai — not out of ego, but commitment. The practice was never just physical. It shaped how I deal with pressure, conflict, and ambiguity — especially when stakes are high.
That mindset carried into my academic studies, where my interest in negotiation was sparked by the legendary Psychomathematics course at ESSEC Business School — designed by two professors: a PhD in Decision Science from Stanford and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from La Sorbonne.
It wasn’t about tricks. It was about human psychology and structured thinking.
I took those principles into the real world — from bond trading to corporate real estate — eventually becoming my firm’s top performer three years in a row.
Then came China. And crisis.
I moved to Asia in 2007. The subprime crash hit. And suddenly, none of my old negotiation methods worked.
In early 2008, every deal fell apart. The culture, the expectations, the rhythm — everything was different.
